Westport Woman's Club Annual Grants Awards Presentation
Leah Scherzer, First Vice President of the Westport Woman’s Club, announced the names of the 2011 Grant Award Recipients at a breakfast today. “It is both a pleasure and hard work to select the grant recipients, especially in these difficult economic times when the need is so great,” said Ms. Scherzer.
Jo Fuchs Luscombe, WWC Community Services Director, and Mary Lee Clayton, WWC President Elect, presented checks to 32 local nonprofit organizations including: A Better Chance, Breast Cancer Emergency Aid Foundation, Cancer Care, Inc., Caroline House, Center for Women & Families, Child and Family Guidance Center, Children’s Connection, Christian Community Action, Norwalk (CCA), Circle of Care, CLASP Homes, Inc., Domestic Violence Crisis Center, ElderHouse, Families in Need Fund (DHS), Family & Children's Agency, Greater Bridgeport Adolescent Pregnancy Program, Inc., Hall-Brooke Behavioral Health Services, Home Delivered Meals (DHS), Homes with Hope, Kids Empowered by Your Support, McGivney Community Center, Mercy Learning Center, Neighborhood Studios of Fairfield County, Positive Directions, Project GO (DHS), Project Return, Re-focus Outreach Ministry, Senior Client Needs (DHS), Staples Post Prom (Staples High School PTA), Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care of Fairfield County, Westport Fire Department, Westport Public Library, and Westport/Weston Family Y.
Christiana Pope, Executive Director of CCA, spoke on behalf of all the grant recipients, thanking the Westport Woman’s Club for the support received. Funding for these grants is obtained through fundraisers such as the Yankee Doodle Fair, the newly launched “Waiting in the Wings” Cabaret Series and proceeds from the Curio Cottage Thrift Shop.
