The Westport Woman’s Club is awarding college scholarships totaling $40,000 to deserving Staples High School Seniors who are graduating this spring. The WWC Scholarship Committee reports that due to challenges created by the current pandemic, this year’s review of the applications was especially difficult. Please join the WWC in congratulating these dedicated graduates on their scholarships and future plans for higher education: Tamikah Boyer (University of New Haven, “Emily Duvoisin” Scholarship), Nicole Caiati (Georgia State University), Victoria Caiati (Marist College), Alyssa Chariot (Penn State University), Anna Fuori (Penn State University, “Emily Fuller” Scholarship), Audrey Kramer (California Polytechnic State University), Ian Kramer (Penn State University), Katherine Meszaros (College of the Holy Cross, “Lea Ruegg” Scholarship), Niyhive Michel (Morgan State University) and Tomaso Scotti (University of CT), who was awarded the “Most Active Member” Scholarship in honor of this year’s most active WWC member, Mira Auxier.
The Westport Woman’s Club, organized in 1907, is a non-profit philanthropic organization dedicated to volunteerism and the raising of funds in support of the educational, charitable, cultural and public health services in Westport and surrounding towns. You do not have to be a Westport Resident to join The Westport Woman’s Club. To join, call the WWC office at 203-227-4240.
The Westport Woman’s Club presented scholarships totaling $38,000 at their annual Scholarship Awards ceremony on Thursday, May 23rd. Recipients were Staples High School Seniors, and an adult woman pursuing a secondary education. Thank you to our 2019 Scholarship Chairperson, Wendy McKeon, and her committee for all of their dedication to the application review and interview process, and for coordinating this morning event that honors these inspiring students. The Westport Woman's Club Scholarship Committee awarded 10 scholarships at the May 24th Breakfast Ceremony held at the Westport Woman's Club. The Scholarship Committee (Wendy McKeon – Chairlady, Sandy Atwood, Dorothy Francis, Amy Schneider and Catherine Smith), spent many hours reading each and every transcript, meeting the scholarship recipients during the interview process at Staples High School and finally deciding who the 2013 recipients will be. The scholarship awards are based on financial need and scholastic ability (no lower than 3.0 academic GPA).
This year's scholarship recipients included Tanling Tsao (Lea Ruegg Scholarship) - Queensborough Community College; Ilana Sinay (Ina Bradley Scholarship) - University of Maryland; Joshua Sweet (Emily B. Fuller Scholarship) - Cornell University; Matthew Brill (Most Active Member Scholarship in honor of WWC member, Dorothy Curran) University of Vermont .
Additional Westport Woman's Club Scholarships were awarded to Melanie Martinez - Monmouth University; Stephanie Martinez - University of Mary Washington; Rebecca Watson - University of Vermont; Monika Goldschmidt - Xavier University; Alena Serebryakova - Pace University; Jason Bennett - University of Connecticut; and Bailey Keehan - Coastal Carolina University.
