The Westport Woman's Club held their December Luncheon on Monday, December 5th. Their guest speaker was distinguished Art Historian, Fiona Garland, who spoke about Titian's "Venus of Urbino."
The club was beautifully decorated for the holiday season, and the Garden Department held it's annual Holiday Boutique in the living room. (more…)

The WWC Garden Department traveled to Old Lyme, CT to the Griswold House. A Faerie Village was set up which included 31 little villages from all over the world.

He addressed financial matters, town facility upgrades and improvements; progress on current projects, and implementation of various ongoing projects of interest (i.e., Downtown Master Plan, Compo Beach Site Improvement). For all of our volunteers who don't need any refresher info, please come and enjoy the snacks and see your friends. For our new volunteers, this is a great time to learn exactly how and why we do what we do. For members who are just thinking about volunteering, this is a perfect time to help you make up your mind. The Westport Woman’s Club Curio Cottage will continue its Half-Price Summer Clearance Sale - August 22 - 27.
The Curio Cottage Thrift Shop, at the Westport Woman’s Club, 44 Imperial Avenue, will hold a Half-Price Sale starting Monday, August 22 from 1:00 M to 4:00 PM, Tuesday, August 23 through Friday, August 26 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and the final day, Saturday, August 27 from 11:00 am to 3:00 PM. Rain or Shine. All proceeds go to Fairfield County charities.
Savvy shoppers will get there early, so don’t wait! The shop offers a wide variety of quality items from glassware, cooking equipment, pictures, frames…just about anything. And the inventory is constantly changing.
Our association with the Blues, Views, and BBQ Festival began back in 2008 during its first year and has continued for all 8 years. Since that time, the WWC has received over $14,000 from the Westport Downtown Merchants Association, the sponsor of this town-wide event. On May 19, at the Westport Woman's Club's Bedford Hall, The group presented $30,000 in community services grants to local non-profit organizations. Also awarded were Bedford Hall grants, which allow a one time per year free use of the hall by nonprofits for fundraising or friend-raising purposes. (more…)

The Westport Woman's Club's Food Closet partners each year--on the second Saturday in May--with the National Assn. of Letter Carriers "Stamp Out Hunger" Food Drive. Postal workers collect and deliver bags of food to the WWC's Bedford Hall. There, WWC volunteers receive and sort the food according to type, remove and discard expired items and transfer the net donations for storage and future distribution to Westporters in need, through Westport's Dept. of Human Services. Everyone was excited in anticipation awaiting the arrival of Marc Chagall’s Granddaughter, Bella Meyer. She is carrying on her life in the art field with a store in Manhattan called, “Fleurs Bella….beautifiers”. Her shop make very large arrangements using flowers and all sorts of materials to make very big and beautiful dramatic arrangements for places like the Metropolitan Opera and other openings and celebrations. The sun was shining brightly which made it a perfect day to have the Annual Westport Woman’s Club Art Show for local artists in the Woman’s Club newly refurbished gallery. Jo Fuchs Luscombe was chair of the show with well-known artist Miggs Burroughs acting as Curator to set up a very wonderful show. He also had some unusual art work in the lenticular style which he is noted for. (more…)
On the evening of April 30 and the afternoon of May 1 only, the Westport Woman’s Club’s Art Show fundraiser, curated by Miggs Burroughs, returns to Bedford Hall. Art Show chair Jo Luscombe notes that this year’s show builds on last year’s success and continues the long WWC tradition of partnering with local artists to generate sales for them and funds for local scholarships. Because this year’s show again features multiple works by 15 artists, across an array of media, and at attractive price points, there’s something for everyone. Some of the media will include: watercolor, oil, lenticular images, abstracts, pen and ink, photography, mixed media and ceramics. (more…)

At April Club Day, Marilyn Killough (left) accepted this year's Most Active Member Award, in appreciation for running Cultural Affairs bus trips to Broadway Shows and museums for over 30 years. A scholarship in her name will be awarded this spring to a graduating Staples HS senior. Standing with Marilyn is Susan Hricik, Director of Membership.

The February 9th WWC Garden Department Workshop included creating flower arrangements in teacups, and potting and wiring ivy to create a heart-shaped plant. As you can see in the slideshow included, a fun day was had by all and everyone's creativity shined through. (more…)

Since 1907, the non-profit Westport Woman's Club's long history of local social philanthropy has included providing food, food gift certificates and meals to Westporters in need. Partnering with Westport's Dept. of Human Services, which protects client confidentiality, the WWC runs the Town's Food Closet, collecting both food and funds for gift certificates at holiday time. The value of annual WWC Food Closet distributions of food and certificates exceeds $40,000. Total average value of WWC grants to the community exceeds $100,000. (more…)

The Westport Woman’s Club today hosted a Nutcracker Tea Party in partnership with the Westport Academy of Dance for the benefit of Waltersville Elementary School in Bridgeport. The event included a high tea, a “Nutcracker Story” reading by Melody James, set to music, along with vignettes by Westport Academy of Dance’s “Nutcracker” cast.
