The U.S. Postal Letter Carrier’s Food Drive, held annually on Mother’s Day Weekend, is scheduled for Saturday, May 14th. Westport residents are invited to place donations of non-perishable food items near their mailboxes for pickup. The donations will help stock the Westport Woman’s Club Food Closet.
“The Post Office drops reminders in all mailboxes before the drive, but we want to help get the word out,” said Karen Center, Chairperson for the Westport Woman’s Club Food Closet.
Under the Leadership of the Westport Department of Human Services, the WWC Food Closet provides over 500 bags of non-perishable food and over $15,000 in grocery gift cards to Westport families in need. “In tough economic times like these, we’re seeing the need greater than ever,” said Mary Vickery, President of the Westport Woman’s Club. “The Food Closet is stocked with food donated by members, private companies, and the community at large. We can really use the towns’ support and hope that many residents will help by putting out donations before their letter carriers come on May 14th.”
